The mistake I made was not getting shots of the cutdown! There were several that I almost needed a chainsaw to cut down. stems of close to 2 - 3 inches in diameter. But the leaves made nice mulch once they dried out.

'Red King Humbert' - awesome, deep burgundy and green leaves vary from almost chocolate to deep green with deep red veins and edges; numerous, handsome, semi-self-cleaning orange/red flowers; 6-10ft.

Cannas are an easy to grow, low maintenance flower that offer a beautiful show of color all summer. Cannas are planted in the spring after danger from hard frost. Cannas love full sun and require a minimum of four hours direct sunlight.(these were planted on an 'east' wall this year and did very well.)

The rhizomes were planted about 12 inches apart and were only about 2inches below the soil. Cannas LOVE water and should be watered thoroughly several times a week by slowly soaking the area. Rose or tomato fertilizers are good. Its NOT necessary to dead head (I collected the seed pods-gonna try) to induce new blooms.

Cannas grow to heights of 3 feet (dwarf), 4 feet (medium) and 6 feet (tall), and have long banana-like leaves along the stem. Foliage color varies from several hues of green to a reddish-purple and bronze, depending on the cultivar.
